    Introduction

The Robotics and Mechatronics Symposium provides a platform to showcase and establish the current state of advanced robotics and mechatronics research in South Africa. Research facilities in southern Africa and beyond are invited to an opportunity to present and share their work. The symposium is open to all industries and members of the public as well as research institutions and hobbyists. The symposium will bring together, on a common platform, researchers, academicians, application engineers, users of CAD/CAM, robotics and factory automation technologies and methodologies and policy makers. As an IEEE RAS and CC supported conference the successfully reviewed papers will appear in IEEE Explore.

Any and all Robotics and Mechatronics topics will be considered, topics will include but are not limited to:

    • Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
    • manufacturing (CAM)
    • engineering (CAE)
    • Process Planning (CAPP)
    • Production Management (CAPM)
    • Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)

    Paper Submission and Presentation

The official language of the symposium is English.  Participants are requested to submit their papers in English using the std IEEE format, A4, 2 columns limited to 6 pages as a pdf as per the web page http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html. Copies of papers will be circulated electronically to delegates as a Proceedings Volume of the Symposium. The closing date for receipt of full paper for review is 31 August 2012 (although early submission will allow for early evaluation and potentially preferential acceptance, and late submission will be considered provided the paper has been registered on the conference web site (www.robmech.co.za/) and the author requests the extension from the review board (jgreen at csir.co.za). Review of paper, with comments, will be sent to the author by 30 September 2012. The closing date for receipt of final paper for inclusion in the symposium proceedings is 20 October 2012. Only "full delegate" registered and paid delegate’s papers will be included in the proceedings.
